Shay explains she wanted to create pieces everyone can afford;
“I have (had) wanderlust my entire life, and I remember being very young and knowing that I wanted to see as much of the world as I could,” she tells People magazine. “With my career and other opportunities, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel all over. After countless trips and ‘Shaycations’, I realized that I wanted to create amazing, affordable pieces for travelers like myself.”
“The cosmetic case can be for the woman on the go,” she continues. “The weekender can be a travel bag or tote groceries. The duffel can be a gym bag and so on. I wanted the bags to have many functionalities while providing value for the consumers.”
The collection consists of 7 different pieces, including a backpack, a practical travel bag, a huge tote bag and a beauty case. All accessories are available in neutral colors such as beige or black, with the exception of passport covers and luggage labels. They are also available in pastel colors, bright red, fuchsia, persimmon and bright yellow. And the best of all, the collection is quite affordable and is priced between $12 and $83.
We would like to censure the whole collection, but we start now with ‘The Weekender’. At first sight ‘The Weekender’ looks beautiful and functional. Below you can read the review and draw your own conclusion if Shay reach her goal to create a collection that everyone can be afford.
'The Weekender' is available in the colors black and beige. The design of the bag is casual so easy to combine with diffrent styles. It is a decent bag and is made of a sturdy water-resistant linning. The top of the bag can be closed with a zipper. When te zipper is opened, there is a large opening to put all your clothes neatly folded in the bag.
What strikes me about 'The Weekender' is that the bottom is separated from the top. What is really handy to separate your dirty clothing and / or shoes from your clean clothes and toiletries. So you don’t have to bring extra bags to separate your stuff ( I always forget this and still have to improvise, this is a really good solution).
At the inside you will find a separate compartment for storing your laptop. When your bag is packed with everything you cann’t 'miss' wheil traveling, you can easily conjure up your laptop. There is a separate compartment on the inside that can be closed with a zipper for keys, passport or other important items that you should be able to easily access.
On the side of the bag there is a side pocket, when you open the zipper of this compartment, a band is created that can easily slide over the handle of your trolley / suitcase. No more bumbling with all of those bags and suitcases.
In brief; At 'The Weekender' comes functionality is at the first place. Everywhere has been thought about, to make your journey as flawless as possible. The design is casual and simple, easy to combine with multiple clothing styles. Personally, I love casual, so this is entirely my thing. If you prefer exclusivity more, this isn’t the design that suits you. Exclusivity is also not where Shay wanted to emanate, she wanted a collection that is accessible to everyone and in my opinion this has been successful.
